In-between Season
Curious about Bozeman’s earliest snowfall? Well, brace yourself—it’s dropped 2 inches or more as early as August 24th… yeah, you read that right. Both 1910 and 1992 decided summer was overrated. As for today’s flurries on October 18th? Right on cue. The first snowfall around here usually shows up fashionably late—around October 7th.
October is a month of transition here in the Gallatin Valley and the surrounding mountains. One day it’s cold and wet, the next it’s warm and sunny. You’ll get a bit of everything.
It’s also the perfect time to get outside while most of the tourists are off planning their next pumpkin spice conquest.
When the trails are dry, the hiking is amazing. The cool weather is refreshing—you can really feel the change of season in the air. Plus, October is prime time for hooking a fatso. Trophy browns are gearing up to spawn, which happens in November and early December.
So, enjoy this “in-between” month! Layer smart: start with a wool base-layer, throw on some fleece, and top it off with a rainproof, windproof shell. And for the best experience, invest in good performance socks, gloves, and headwear.
Crazy Mountain has all the essentials from the brands you trust, like Oboz, Outdoor Research, Patagonia, Darn Tough, and more.
Just remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather—only poor wardrobe choices.
Bundle up—we’ll see you out there!
